2016 TRAINING HOURS AND DEADLINE

Training Hours - As of January 1, 2016, all members of the fire department are required to have a minimum of 24 hours of training to maintain compliance and/or certification.  The deadline to have those hours entered will be midnight, April 30, 2017.  Please call our office at 478-993-4521 if you need instructions on how to enter hours.

Just a reminder - A volunteer registration package must be completed and kept on file at the department. Page 15 of the package will need to be sent to GFSTC for all volunteers starting after January 1, 2016.

Website/Database Update

Our new database was scheduled to go live January 31, however, in the coming weeks, the company that is developing our database will be visiting 11 departments around the state.  These departments will invite neighboring departments to participate in the training session conducted by the IT Developer.  We are trying to make the rollout (live) go much easier for everyone.  In order to make this an easier transition, we are going to implement the following rollout (live) schedule.

February 1 - live for Gwinnett County, Hall County and Banks County
February 15 - live for Dekalb County, Atlanta, and Alpharetta
February 28 - live for Moultire, Savannah, Augusta, Donalsonville, and Rome
March 14 - live for all remaining departments

Change of Status Reports

Many of you know know that our database has been having issues for a year.  If any of you submitted online change of status, please print those off and fax them to us at 478-993-4511 if you haven't already.  That information is lost and can't be brought over to the database.  We are working hard on getting everything entered that has been submitted by paper form to us.  It will take us some time to get caught up.  They tell us the new database will be going live by the end of January.  PLEASE DO NOT ENTER ANY ONLINE CHANGE OF STATUS UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

2016 YEAR END REPORTING DELAY

This class is an opportunity for Metro Atlanta Firefighters to see how UL has been researching topics such as building construction, modern fire behavior, ventilation, suppression, and more to help firefighters operate more safely and effectively. This research has been performed in collaboration with technical panels of experienced firefighters to ensure that the research is appropriate and applicable to the fire service. Using the data from UL research and the experience of the technical panels, tactical fireground considerations are presented in this training titled Top 20 Tactical Considerations from Firefighter Research.
