Gordon Henderson named Executive Director of Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training
Longtime Rome Fire Chief and former Chairman for the Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training Council Gordon Henderson, was named Executive Director of GFSTC on November 19, 2014. Henderson takes over as Executive Director from Lyn Pardue, who retired in July of 2014. He recently announced his retirement from Rome effective December 31st and will begin his new role January 2nd.  In his duties as Executive Director, Henderson will be responsible for working with Council and staff to assure minimum compliance according to OCGA Title 25, manage certifications, and collaborate with state and local officials, fire chiefs, and members of appendant fire service organizations.
            Henderson’s fire service career began in Rome in 1975. During that time, he served as a firefighter, engineer, company officer, training officer, and chief officer. He is a member of the Georgia State Firefighter’s Association and served as President from 2000-2002. In addition, he is a member of the Georgia Association of Fire Chiefs where he served as a District Vice President for several years, as well as the International Association of Fire Chiefs, and the National Fire Protection Association. Since July 2004, Henderson has been a member of and is the current Secretary for the National Fire Protection Association’s National Professional Qualifications for Firefighters 1001, 1002, 1003 and 1005 Committees and since 1994, he has served as a      Principle Member of the National Fire Protection Association’s National Professional Qualifications for Firefighters 1001, 1002, 1003 and 1005 Committees.
            Henderson is a state certified firefighter and holds a BS in Human Resources from Columbia Southern University. He has attended numerous training classes concerning the fire service and management throughout his career. Henderson and his wife Dawn have two adult children and reside in Armuchee, Georgia.
