      TITLE:    Fire Training Officer 
 
              DEPARTMENT:     Lowndes County Fire/Rescue Service
 
                     LOCATION:    2981 HWY 84 East              
 
           SALARY RANGE:    $42,840.66 annually
 
JOB SUMMARY:     This position is responsible for supervising the development and provision of training for department personnel.
 
MINIMUM TRAINING:     Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a High School Diploma. An Associate’s degree in Fire Science or a related course of study is strongly preferred. Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, and a minimum of five years’ experience with a recognized career fire department. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Meet current requirements set forth by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) as a Firefighter 2, Fire Instructor 1, Fire Officer 1, Structural Fire Control Instructor and meet the Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training Act. Possession of State of GA. EMT license. Ability to meet current requirements set forth by the NFPA as a Fire Instructor 2, Fire Officer 2 and NPQ Evaluator within 12 months of employment. Ability to meet requirements for Emergency Medical Responder Instructor within 12 months of employment.

THERE WILL BE EVALUATOR CLASSES ON THE FOLLOWING DATES IN FEBRUARY:
FEBRUARY 12TH AT 9:00 AM BAY “B”
FEBRUARY 15TH AT 9:00 AM BAY “B”
FEBRUARY 20TH AT 9:00 AM BAY”A”
FEBRUARY 26TH AT 9:00 AM ROOM 118
FEBRUARY 27TH AT 9:00 AM ROOM 118.
50 Personnel may attend each class, 2 personnel from each department.
Personnel must know their GFSTC ID number.  A prerequisite must be signed by the Fire Chief or Designee. This prerequisite and a letter of recommendation from the Fire Chief or Designee must be brought to the class.  Without this prerequisite and letter personnel cannot attend class.

All current Proctor, Monitors, Test Sites and those departments seeking to become test sites and Proctor/ Monitors must completely fill out the Proctor/Monitor/Test Site Application and send to Mike Hancock, 1000 Indian Springs Drive, Forsyth GA 31029, or email to mhancock@gfstconline.org no later than December 20th 2017.  This application can be found at www.gfstconline.org.  Go to Files/department to download application.  

Attach three letters of recommendation with this application.
Applications will be reviewed by GFSTC Staff.   Applications will be accepted upon area needs.
GFSTC will send invitations to those departments qualified.
Sending in these applications does not mean you will become Test Sites, Proctor or Monitors.

Public Hearing and Called Council Meeting

The Proposed GFSTC Rules & Regulations draft was approved by the Georgia Firefighter Standards & Training Council on October 10, 2017 and posted for public review on October 12, 2017.  These rules can be found on our website under Rules, Proposed Rules - October 2017.  If you have any comments, please email Gordon Henderson at ghenderson@gfstconline.org before the Public Hearing.

A Public Hearing will be held at 1:00pm on November 8, 2017 in the GFSTC office at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center, 1000 Indian Springs Drive, Forsyth, Georgia.


The Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training Council meeting will be held following the public hearing in the same location.

EVALUATOR CLASS (MANDATORY)

EVALUATOR CLASS

To be an Evaluator for GFSTC, this class is mandatory 

All Evaluators will have two (2) years to attend the new Evaluator Class-
These classes will be held from January 2018 through January 2020
The Evaluator Class will be given on the following dates:
 
January 3rd, 2018 in Bay A
January 16th, 2018 in Bay A
January 30th, 2018 in Bay A
 
50 Personnel may attend this class. 
2 Personnel from each department.
